Background
Midzomergracht festival

Midzomergracht festival celebrates from 15 to 24 June 2018 for the 22nd time sexual diversity and gender diversity together with the residents of Utrecht and visitors from home and abroad.

What can you expect?

For ten days you can participate in or watch all kinds of activities in the field of culture, sports, debate and meeting, special exhibitions and a variety of parties. The fantastic, typically Utrecht atmosphere makes it attractive for a wide audience.

Also this year the festival consists of three parts:

  • The first weekend at  Midzomergracht Village at the Stadsschouwburg Utrecht near the Lucasbolwerk

  • The weekday program at various locations throughout the city

  • The last weekend with the traditional PANN-party PANNDORA on Saturday evening

Pillars Midzomergracht festival

The activities of Midzomergracht festival are organized by the pink and related organizations of Utrecht, in cooperation with the volunteers of the festival, around the pillars Sports, Education, Culture & Pride.

Edition 2019

By the way, in 2019 Midzomergracht festival will be celebrated from 21 to 30 June.

More information

Friday 15 June:
An educational day program, spectacular opening show and party until the early hours.

Saturday 16 June:
The Utrecht Canal Pride in the Utrecht city center, preceded and followed by culture and party in the Village

Sunday 17 June:
Indoor and outdoor festival with music, theatre and food.

Midzomergracht has a wide offer in the field of culture & amusement. From pink films, to parties, concerts and improvisational theater, and from lectures to photo exhibitions.

In addition, little clarifies your opinion as well as a good debate, conducted by eloquent people with good arguments. There is also a lot to learn during other activities. We work together with universities, including lectures. It is not for nothing that education is one of our pillars. Many local entrepreneurs are involved in making this ten-day event a success. They organize, sell, sponsor or simply join in. Of course also the owners of the LHTBI + bars Bodytalk and Kalff, whose owner Robert Kalff is also the initiator of the still new Utrecht Canal Pride.

For sports  you could go during the weekdays during the week activities of sports clubs such as Nat, Vlerk and Gay Squash Utrecht. There was also enough sportive to see and do on the Park Day (pole dancing .. someone?). Keep an eye on the website and social media!

Midzomergracht festival has two important goals:

  • It wants to be a stage once a year for all Utrecht LGBTI+ organizations to present themselves together.
  • It wants to increase social tolerance towards sexual diversity by making the cultural aspects accessible to a large audience.

Most program elements are organized by the existing pink (interest) organizations in Utrecht. Stichting de Overkant supports and coordinates, including programming and locations and promotion through various channels such as this site, Facebook (5000 followers), Instagram (600 followers) and printed media. A number of core activities are organized especially by the volunteers of Stichting de Overkant, such as the Sports Day and Midzomergracht Village.
